Our club rides are at the heart of the club. We have a range of club rides including:
Half day rides on a Saturday
Full day rides on a Sunday
Women And Girls (WAGs) rides
Saturday rides include a ride at a gentler pace suitable for newcomers to club riding.
Club rides with a café stop are prefixed by a C, and non-stop training rides are prefixed by a T. Take a look at the event calendar to find a ride at the level that suits your fitness.
C1 – A gentle social ride of 25-35 miles at the pace of the slowest rider, but usually about 12-13mph. This is an introductory ride for those who may not have cycled in a group before, and there will always be a café stop about half way through the ride. As a guide, you should be able to ride 12 miles in an hour on your own before joining this ride.
C2 – A slightly faster ride of 13-14mph, usually covering a slightly longer route of 35-40 miles which may include a few hills. This group is the next step for anyone who is finding the C1 group a little slow for them.
C3 – This ride is not for beginners. We usually ride 50-60 miles, including some significant hills, at around 14mph. C3 rides are a small step up from C2 rides, being longer in duration. The ride always includes a café stop for lunch.
C4 – A traditional club ride covering 40-60 miles, occasionally a little more, at 15-17mph. Terrain covered will be mixed and include significant climbs at a steady pace.
C5 – A group ride at around 16-18mph over a distance of 45-70 miles (or sometimes more) over varied, and sometimes challenging, terrain. There are likely to be some interestingly hilly sections and a café stop is mandatory. A ride for the more experienced: whilst it is, nominally, no drop, riders are expected to have a suitable level of fitness for the ride and it is perhaps not the ideal starting point if you are riding for the first time with the club.
T1 – A 30-40 mile non-stop group training ride at an average speed of 16-17mph on undulating terrain, but with no significant climbs. Use of group discipline, and signalling, is expected from all riders as you will be riding in close proximity to others. It is recommended that you are able to comfortably ride with the C3 rides as a minimum before attending this ride: although the group will strongly endeavour to remain together, including mechanical assistance at the discretion of the Ride Leader, you need to be prepared to find your own way home in the event that you are not able to keep up.
T2 – A 40-60 mile non-stop group training ride at an average speed of 17-19mph on undulating terrain with the occasional significant climb. Use of group discipline, and signalling, is mandatory during this ride: you will be reminded by the group if you forget! You must be comfortable with group rotation and, ideally, familiar with riding 'through and off'. It is recommended that you are able to comfortably ride with T1 or C4/C5 rides before attending this ride: although the group will make some allowance to remain together, including mechanical assistance at the discretion of the Ride Leader, but you need to be prepared to find your own way home in the event that you are not able to keep up.
T3 – A 50-70 mile non-stop group chaingang ride with an average speed of 20mph+. Experience in fast, disciplined, chaingangs/pacelines is expected at all times. It is recommended that you are able to comfortably ride with T2 rides before attending this ride. Please make sure you are able to make your own way home as this group will not wait in the event that you have any problems, or cannot keep up.
