Temporary traffic lights on the planned course (5 laps round Blagdon / Tranwell / Ponteland) meant the 100 was transferred back to the Cramlington / Ellington course. The weather was largely kind, with cool (but not cold) conditions and little wind for the first stages of the race, though a westerly breeze did pick up towards the end. Fortunately the traffic was not too bad on the spine road either.
As ever, there were a number of races within the race. Whilst Craig and Paul Rider had first and second in the BAR pretty much sown up before the start, third place was up for grabs between Alan and Roger - Alan needing to finish at least 6 minutes ahead to move ahead in the BAR. Mark was riding for a placing in the club 100 having gone off course in the 50 earlier in the season. The Vets BAR placings were also at stake for Paul, Alan, Ritchie and Danny, whilst Lucy was looking to become the first lady in the club to complete the long distance BAR.
Craig started fast and maintained a clear lead throughout hte event to finish 11 minutes ahead of Mark in second place, whilst Paul set a PB by 10 minutes. The battle between Roger and Alan was close, particularly as Alan started 5 minutes behind and started fast to close to within 1 minute at 50 miles before dropping back by the finish. Ritchie, Lucy and Danny all put in solid rides for PBs, Ritchie unlucky not to brak the 5 hour mark, and Lucy unlucky to puncture almost in sight of the finish.
Thanks to Paul Murphy for putting the event on yet again, and for handing up bottles near Bassington.
