Riding the Alphabet

Post by Keith Aungiers »

Inspired by a recent ride from Duns to Eyemouth (D-E) I have been thinking up a whimsical, imaginary route between places in alphabetical order. Spoilt for choice for some letters, for others I'll have to be a bit creative. Here is a first attempt (done on the fly so subject to refinement) that may appeal to some, starting in my home town and reaching into Northumberland, the Scottish Borders and County Durham:

Ashington-Bamburgh
Bamburgh-Cornhill
Cornhill-Duns
Duns-Eyemouth
Eyemouth-Ford
Ford-Glanton
Glanton-Haltwhistle
Haltwhistle-Ireshopeburn
Ireshopeburn-Juniper
Juniper-Kielder
Kielder-Little Bavington
Little Bavington-Morpeth
Morpeth-Netherwitton
Netherwitton-Ovingham
Ovingham-Prudhoe
Prudhoe-Quaking Houses
Quaking Houses-Rothbury
Rothbury-Stannington
Stannington-Templetown
Templetown-Ulgham
Ulgham-Vindolanda
Vindolanda-Wooler
Wooler-(Bran)Xton
(Bran)Xton-Yeavering
Yeavering-(Guy)Zance

As an alternative for the mid-section:

Glanton-Hepple
Hepple-Ingoe
Ingoe-Juniper

and later:

Rothbury-Snitter
Snitter-Tritlington
Tritlington-Ulgham
