Cycling UK's 140 cycling routes

Post by Roger Clarke » Thu Aug 09, 2018 9:05 am

Cycling UK is celebrating 140 years with a collection of 140 cycling routes.

I was honoured to be asked to submit a route for inclusion, along with well-known cyclists such as Chris Boardman, Mark Beaumont and, err, Timmy Mallett!

Here is a link to my route: ... ger-clarke

My thanks to Keith Aungiers for his assistance with the wording, Keith Briggs for the photo (taken from a club ride over the ranges - you'll have to look to see if you feature!) and Andy Berne for sense checking the route.

And here is a link to the full list of 140 routes:

It is a great route-Keith lead a Sunday ride over a similar route two or three years ago. I hadn't known it had been an annual event. I shall try and include it in the calendar next year. There is also the opportunity in the Chevy Chase Audax in the spring, although that uses the harder, anticlockwise, direction.

A similar route also used to feature as a midsummer overnight ride in my CTC days (9 or 10 pm start from Ponteland) including once with a very young Elaine Dey. If you fancy trying it at night lookout for sheep asleep in the middle of the road all the way down Upper Coquetdale - maybe one for next midsummer. ;)
