Sunday C5 winter rides

Post by Roger Clarke » Wed Oct 09, 2019 9:52 pm

I've put destinations into the calendar for Sunday C5 rides through until Christmas.

Meet at Jan's for a 9.30 start, back by 3pm, probably earlier for some destinations.

I can't guarantee to be riding every week but happy to lead the group when I'm out.

This week's ride is to Rothbury.

Tomorrow's ride is to the cafe at Otterburn Mill. I've got a 55 mile route planned.

Last week's weather was nowhere near as bad as forecast - we stayed dry to Rothbury and the rain was only light on the way back. Hopefully tomorrow will also be better than forecast!

After a couple of weeks where weather proved to be better than forecast.
This Sunday's ride is to Alnmouth (correction from my original post!!). Yet to plot a route but it will be generally flat.

Mudguards essential!

5 of us out for an excellent ride to Alnmouth last Sunday.
Weather forecast this weekend doesn't look quite so good, but then it has been forecast wet two and three weeks ago and didn't turn out too bad.
Planned destination this week is Allendale. Expect to be back in Pont nearer to 3pm than 2pm I think.

Planned ride for tomorrow is to Swarland - but like Gordon I've had enough of getting soaked every time I go out, so unless the weather changes dramatically from what is forecast fr tomorrow I won't be out.

Bellingham tomorrow. Forecast is for a westerly wind gusting 40mph. Planning to ride straight there via Wark, then back via Sweethope Lough. 9.30 at Jan's.

Forecast for tomorrow looks ok, though possibly some frost overnight.

Planning a 50 mile route mostly on B roads, cafe stop in Hexham.

A gentle reminder that mudguards are mandatory on C5 Sunday rides in winter. If you don't have mudguards then please don't turn up for the ride - I don't want to be put in the position of having to tell anyone they can't come on the ride. The roads are really scruffy at the moment regardless of the weather on the day.

As Capheaton is closed this weekend I'm changing the destination for this Sunday's C5 ride to Hollybush. The weather looks ok so planning a route to the cafe via Slaley and then a more direct route back to Pont.

As ever, mudguards mandatory.

Tomorrow's ride is to Chollerford - planned route is 53 miles via Wark taking in a few less-used lanes and includes (as described to me some years ago) a few conky bits! Lanes will be mucky so don't forget your mudguards.

I'll get a full calendar of C5 rides posted in the next week.
