C6 Club rides during the summer

Post by Adam Hogarth » Sat Jun 29, 2019 5:25 pm

All,

Following the example set out by the C3 rides and a helpful nudge from club legend Hugh Harrison, see below list of C6 rides set out and added to the calendar for this summer.

The list includes some of the iconic longer rides the vags used to cover in the past, I think its only right we try to bring back the tradition of what I'm calling the 3 monument rides of TVCC.

30/06- St John's Chapel
07/07- Alnmouth
14/07- Falstone
21/07- Alston (Monument 1)
28/07- Kielder via Carter bar (Monument 2)
04/08- Haltwhistle
11/08- Middleton-in-Teesdale (Monument 3)
18/08- Seahouses
25/08- Allenheads
01/09- No Club ride- 100Mile TT
08/09- Elsdon

Thank you for organising Adam, some cracking destinations there!
Revitalising the monuments is an excellent idea... I've done 2/3 in the past and they are truly memorable!
I will make it to as many as I can.
Cheers, Ken

Looks like a good set of rides - shame I'm not fast enough to keep up!

By the way, the Alston monument is Alston via Hartside, so that would be via Bardon Mill, Haltwhistle and Hallbankgate. i can remember riding it with Hugh over 20 years ago on a scorching hot day and we stopped at the leisure centre in Hexham for an extra cafe stop (everything else had closed by then).

The other two monuments I've ridden were round the Cheviot and the Hell of the North (Kielder via the Byrness toll road on road bikes in April). There was also Rothbury via the Ranges at Easter.

I’m sure you would keep up no problem Roger, everyone shares the load pretty well so there’s plenty of opportunities to sit in. Plus the blood, sweat and tears adds to the adventure.

This Sunday we are heading to Falstone and it could a reasonably long day (80-90 miles) so in order to get back around 2:30pm we will be meeting at Jans Cafe at 9am.

The longer rides are always better with a bigger group therefore, the ride will be at more sensible pace in order to enable a wider ability to come along. Estimate a 17-18mph average.

Any questions, please ask.

Adam

A ride that we always did at least once during the year was, Wooler, Kirk Yetholm, Hounam, Carter Bar, Otterburn. Normally leaving about 8.30am. I suppose that traffic is heavier now to Wooler, but the rest is mainly on quieter roads.

Hugh, I'm more than happy if someone else wants to organise a ride, could think about a possibility for the future. I'll discuss next time I see you. Andy
