Go-Ride Update

Go-Ride Coaching at Ponteland High School Car Park

This spring saw a new intake of children starting the Go-Ride coaching with the Vagabonds on Saturday morning's at Ponteland High School Car Park.  The popularity of the coaching is growing as word spreads locally and more children start to participate.  We also have people travelling as they have looked for a Go-Ride club and we are the nearest location for them in the North East. Some of last years children have now progressed on to Go-Ride Cluster coaching sessions geared more towards racing on Wednesday evenings and it's great to see this for those that are interested.  Ed is involved in this more focused coaching so for the Vagabonds progressing on they have a familiar face at the sessions.

With this new Go-Ride intake, plus last years regulars we now split Saturday mornings into two groups, beginners and intermediate ( shown left ), using two coaches.

On Sat 15th June the Intermediate group had a great session with visiting British Cycling coach Alex McLean on Time Trial starts whilst the beginners continued with mounts/dismounts and gearing.

On Sat 22nd June Ed Beechinor-Collins organised a mini cross-race in the car park, and we have 23 participants,  a great success, with medals and prizes for all the children.

The coaching will be stopping after Sat July 20th for a Summer break and then starting again on Saturday 31st August for the Autumn when attention will start to turn to cross and MTB.

The beginners group ( right ) has a good number of regulars now, mostly around 6-10 year olds,  and many show good progression in just a short time.  Hopefully a number will feel ready to tackle some cross or MTB racing this autumn.

In 2013 Go-Ride has been a great success for the Vagabonds,  we have brought cycling to a new generation of youngsters in the area and now have some promising looking young riders.

If any member of the Vags would like to assist with the Go-Ride sessions, then please get in touch. I'd also like to extend an invite to all club members to come along on a Saturday morning and see what we are doing.  You'll be more than welcome and will help discuss and explain to the parents the other activities in the club.

More information on British Cycling Go-Ride can be found at British Cycling Go-Ride

If you'd like more information about the Vagabonds Go-Ride please use our contact page or contact one of the coaches direct.
