Club 10 - 5th May 2016

The first club time trial of the year is not known for good conditions, so 14C and a light westerly wind is not a bad start to the club time trial season at all.  Danny Grieves was a clear winner with a fast 21:59, with Mark Reed second and Dave Robinson in third.

However, it was the club's young riders who stole the show.  Miriam Jessett was fastest lady in her first time trial, with a time of 27:48.  Henry Knight was fastest of the youth riders just one second ahead of Joe Tubby, and Daniel Holmes in his first ever time trial set of a time of 27:47 at the age of just 12.  Well done to all of them!

Go-Ride - Fun at the Farm Finale

The latest Vagabonds Go-Ride racing series "Fun at the Farm" drew to a close on Saturday 19th March with the final round of the 6 round series.  Sixteen young Vagabonds, including one aged just 4, took part in a skills test in the barn followed by a 15 minute cyclo-cross race on the field.

The competitions were hotly contested in both the under 8s and over 8s categories, with points scored from the best 4 results out of 6 events counting towards the series awards.  There were Go-Ride trophies for the series 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in both the skills and scratch race competitions for both age categories, and all participants went away with a certificate and Easter egg.

Congratulations to all who took part, and a big thank you to all the coaches and other helpers involved in organising the events.

Heart Start and Emergency Life Support Skills

A session for members, provided by the Stephen Carey Fund

On Monday 11th April 2016, 7.30-9.30pm - at Westmoor Community Centre.

The Stephen Carey Fund is going to deliver the British Heart Foundation ‘Heart Start’ plus Emergency Life Support Skills (ELS) course, which includes: Dealing with an unconscious casualty - Suspected Heart Attacks - Cardiac Arrest - Serious Bleeding – Choking

SCF says that the session will be ‘hands-on’ and suitable for all ages. You will gain practical experience of the steps and techniques involved, in a managed scenario with appropriate guidance and instruction. You will not only practise on ‘Resusi Anne’ but will find out how to use public access defibrillators as well. Certificates will be provided to those who complete the session and can show appropriate understanding of the knowledge and skills demonstrated.

The charity provides this training free of charge; however, we are hoping attendees will be willing to show appreciation for this work with donations towards the important work being done in Northumberland both to provide defibrillators throughout the county and train us all in their use. Tea & coffee will be free but home-made cakes will be on sale, with proceeds also to the Stephen Carey Fund. So, bring your cash along and support a worthy cause!

There should be room for c.20 people but if there’s a large response, the SCF is willing to return for another session. So, the first 20 to book will get a definite place; but please let us know if you subsequently need to cancel so someone else can take your place. Click HERE to go to booking page (but remember, you must log in to the website in order to register your place as this is a members-only event!).
