This month's Newsletter is largely devoted to one subject, the setting up of a Club Facebook Group for Club rides and events.  But first, a few other news items in brief.

1 Survey of members-coming next month

2 CX Presentations for 2018/19 will be held on Saturday 15 June at The Hearth at Horsley.  This will be the destination for the club rides that day.  Timetable for other events later in the year will also be changed.  Details will follow later in the year.

3 Saturday rides to be re-launched after Easter.

4 New Club Facebook Group for Club rides and events

The Committee have agreed to a proposal to set up a Facebook Group for Club rides and events.  The basic principle behind this proposal is that club rides and events must be detailed on the club’s website calendar, as currently happens, with details to include: date, start time, expected finish time, distance, lunch/café stop (where appropriate), pace, contact; the Forum can be used to provide any supplementary information that is available (e.g. route description and/or link to GPX file), or late changes, including cancellation.  The website calendar and Forum will remain the primary channels for communication, so that no member is disadvantaged if they choose not to have a Facebook account, or choose not to join the Group.

The Group is called ‘Tyneside Vagabonds (Members Only) Club Rides and Events’.  It is a Closed Group, which means that anyone can find the Group, but only Club members will be able to join.  If you are unfamiliar with the terminology, the name of a Closed Group and its description can be seen by the public, but posts in the Group can only be seen by its members.  We decided on a Closed Group, rather than a Secret Group, so that club members can easily find the Group.

‘Events’ can be listed within the Group by any organiser (Thursday, Saturday and Sunday rides-social or training, Wednesday evening chaingang, or ad hoc events, as long as the principles of the club rides are adopted).  Social events could also be added.  The organiser can add updates in the Group (e.g. route, late changes, cancellation as long as any such information is also on the Forum/Website calendar).

Members could respond by using the ‘going’ or ‘interested’ buttons, or post comments.

It is intended that the existing Tyneside Vagabonds Winter Training Rides Facebook Group will be merged into the new Group after the end of the current winter season (last training ride is on 23 March).  The Vags Go Ride Parents Group and Vags Pit Crew Group are not affected by this proposal, and neither is the Go-Ride Tyneside Vagabonds Page

Open events, such as Audax rides (which have their own Facebook page-Tyneside Vagabonds Audax Events) would not be listed in the new Group.

The new Group will go ‘live’ on 1 March 2019.  On or after that date just search Facebook for ‘Tyneside Vagabonds (Members Only) Club Rides and Events’ and click the button ‘Join Group’.

Remember, only current club members will be allowed to join, so if you haven’t yet renewed your subscription for 2019, now in an ideal time to do so.
