Just a short one this month.  I’m hoping we will be able to provide an update on the Club Clothing situation next month.

Mallorca 2019

For the last two years at least (i.e. this year and last year) Club Members have booked individually for the Spring Mallorca trip.  It seems to be cheaper this way, rather than a group booking which happened previously.  Generally there are two dates, one during the school Easter holidays and one before or after.  Easter is late next year-Easter Sunday is on 21 April.  School holidays are Monday 8 April to Monday 22 April, inclusive.

The dates which seem to be emerging (and indeed some have already booked) are the week before the schools break up (i.e. Friday 29 March to Friday 5 April) and the week immediately before Easter (i.e. Saturday 13 to Saturday 20 April) (I haven’t checked operators’ schedules so I don’t know if flights are available on every day).

There is no particular pace for each of the weeks-the faster riders often join the slower riders on a couple of days for social riding and recovery, and vice-versa, some slower riders join the faster riders for a less pacey ride.  This is more inclusive and allows members to mix and match their riding.

Two hotels seem to be used-Aparthotel Duva and Spa, and the Fergus Pollenca Park (they are within 1km of each other)

David Millar’s Time Trial Film

South Shields Velo have been working with the promoter to bring this film to Tyneside.  The club has been working with The Customs House in South Shields who will be screening the film at 8pm on Friday the 13th July.  Tickets are between £5-£6 and are on sale from the or from the box office on 0191 454 1234.

For those of you that don’t know South Shields, the Customs House is on the riverside a very short walk from the ferry landing, and about 10 minutes walk from the Metro station.  The ferry back to North Shields operates until 22.40 on a Friday evening.

New Café

A bit close to home, but I’d noticed that the Plants Plus Garden Centre on Berwick Hill Road (Horton Grange end) has opened a café.  They’ve approached me and asked if I could let club members know.  I’ve not been in myself, so have no idea what it’s like.
