The Club

Tyneside Vagabonds Cycling Club is based in Newcastle upon Tyne and its aim is to encourage all forms of cycling.

Club Runs

Sunday club runs take place every week, meeting at the cafe in Ponteland at 9:30am (unless otherwise stated in the events calendar). Rides are approximately 50 miles in the winter, increasing to between 70 and 100 miles in the summer, and always include a cafe stop for lunch. Some of our members turn back towards Newcastle to return home by lunchtime. Average speed is usually 14-16 mph depending on the ride and the time of year.

Saturday easy rides also take place every week, meeting at the cafe in Ponteland at 10:00am. Rides are approximately 25-35 miles, including a cafe stop. The speed of the rides varies to suit the riders on the day to ensure that no-one is left behind. Each ride is lead by a named leader who is an experienced club rider.  These rides are ideal for anyone new to cycling with a club and is worried about whether they are fit enough.

Non-members are welcome to take part in a few club rides before deciding whether they would like to join the club.

Club Nights

Club nights take place on the second and fourth Monday of each month (except on bank holidays) at the Westmoor Residents' Association from 7:30pm. They are an opportunity to meet up with other club members over a cup of tea.  Occasionally the club nights feature videos or themed evenings - full details in the events calendar.

Club Time Trials

The club runs a series of 10 and 25 mile time trials on Thursday evenings during the summer, starting and finishing at Ponteland. These events usually attract about 20 riders, and are ideal for beginners and experienced riders alike. Non-members are welcome to try one of the 10 mile time trials before joining the club.

The club hill climb takes place on the first Sunday in October at Sandhoe near Hexham.

Turbo Training Sessions

Turbo training sessions take place throughout the winter, run by qualified coach Ray Luckett.  The sessions take place at Seaton Burn Recreation Centre and cost £3.50 per session.  Bring your own bike and turbo trainer.
