The first club 10 of the season isn't known for being a fast night - and this year didn't disappoint (well, for the majority of the field at least!). With the temperature at just 8C, and a brisk northerly wind, there were leg warmers, long sleeves and full finger gloves aplenty.
Given the conditions there was a surprisingly good turnout of both riders and marshals, and it was nice to see so many potential new members and young riders. Despite many members having been racing over the last few weeks, it was the first time this season that most had raced each other, so it was a chance to find out how well the winter training had gone.
Whilst John Tuckett was making apparently light work of the wind, Adam Hogarth was riding round with his saddle a few inches low after the seat clamp slipped before the start - not that it seemed to cost him too much time. First vagabond (and fastest vet on standard) was Dave Robinson with a fine 23:46, whilst Elaine Dey lead the women home with a sub-30 minute ride. Rob and Dorothy Hogarth were also under 30 minutes on their tandem, with a time of 29:12.
