For a week in mid-March 10 Vagabonds headed for Majorca in the hope of warm weather and sunshine, and the prospect of some serious training miles, and were not disappointed. Despite weather forecasts predicting temperatures at or below those for the UK, and the presence of snow on the mountains on arrival, the weather was dry and sunny all week with the temperature progressively improving. The club were staying in Port de Pollenca at the northern end of the mounatains that run along the west coast of Majorca. This location is ideal for it's choice of mountain or flat rides, and there are a number of routes away from the hotel using quiet back lanes. With various abilities and fitness levels between the riders, there were different rides each day ranging from huge miles ridden by Hugh and Ann, to shorter and slower rides by Ray and Allen. The Pollenca Park Hotel was also the base for a large number of other British cycling clubs and triathletes each doing their own group rides. On one day a number of the Vags coincided with a large group from Edinburgh RC and joined them for a 97 miles ride through the mountains. Highlights of the week would be riding through the mountains, racing any Germans who came in sight, and a visit to the track at Sineu which saw Rob and Adam going for a flying lap. Not to mention Danny's legs! It would be great to see a bigger group of club members out in Majorca next year - the Edinburgh RC had 45 members there this year! It isn't all non-stop cycling - there were plenty of cafe stops. And there is something for everyone whether you're a regular Saturday rider, Sunday rider, or racer.
