The club ended the year on a high note (or two) with another two National Championship wins!
At the end of October, Jess Watts took her second National Championship title of the year with first place in the 12 year old girls National Hill Climb, which was held on 4.4mile long "Long Hill" near Buxton in the Peak District.
And at the end of November, Mark Reed braved gale force winds to win the 30-34 category of the TLI National Cyclocross Championship, held at Gateshead Stadium. |

Tyneside Vagabonds are running a series of bike skills coaching sessions over the next few weeks that will focus on:
- Building confidence for riding safely in groups
- Learning more about cornering and braking
- Correct pedalling and gear selection
This is a great opportunity for those who are fairly new to the club to pick up some useful skills and advice from Ed Beechinor-Collins who is currently training to become a Level 2 British Cycling coach, and who has plenty of previous experience.
Sessions will start at 8.45am prompt on Saturdays, and will finish in time for those who want to make it out on the Saturday club ride to get to Poppy's for 10am. The first session will be held on 26th November, followed by 10th and 17th December, 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th January and 4th February. The skills sessons will be held at Darras Hall First School, Broadway, Ponteland NE20 9PP. There is plenty of car parking at or very near the school.
These sessions are open to club and non club members, though under eighteens need to be accompanied by parent/responsible guardian. Everyone attending will need a helmet, and suitable clothing including gloves, waterproof jacket - sessions will only be cancelled if there is ice on the ground. Road, hybrid, or mountain bikes are all suitable for the sessions. You will also need to download and complete this form and bring it with you.
Please let Ed know if you are attending as places are limited, or if you have any questions. You can contact Ed on 07740 944764 or by

Jess Watts - National Champion! |
|

From National GHS 10 2011
The National GHS Championship 10 mile time trial saw the club's very own Jess Watts take victory in the 12 year old girls category to become the club's first female national champion!
The GHS (which stands for George Herbert Stancer) is the National Schools 10 mile championship. Riders must qualify through their district rounds held in June, to be invited to compete in the National Final in September. The North East District championship was held in conjunction with our club 10 back in June, and was won by Kyle Watts. Tim Wilcock, Kirsty Boak, and Jess Watts also qualified to represent the club in the finals.
